Claude Puel admits that Leicester City were "lucky" to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday's Premier League clash.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has confessed that Wolverhampton Wanderers were hard done by in Saturday afternoon's meeting at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes claimed a 2-0 win against their Midlands rivals thanks to a Matt Doherty own goal and a James Maddison strike in the first half.

Wolves hit the woodwork a couple of times prior to falling behind, however, and they continued to probe away after Leicester striker Jamie Vardy was shown a straight red card in the 66th minute.

Despite the comfortable margin of the scoreline, Puel admits that his side were "lucky" to escape with all three points.

"I think this team deserve another result. I don't know if it was a fair result," he told BBC Sport. "We were lucky. My players kept a good attitude and mentality. It was important to have the right attitude."

"But we took an important three points. Congratulations for Wolverhampton because they played very well with style. They are difficult to read. They caused us a lot of difficulties because they open up the lines. It's difficult to defend against this team."

Wolves have won just one of their eight visits to this ground in all competitions, drawing three of the others and losing four.
