Nuno Espirito Santo: 'We have to manage games better'

Nuno Espirito Santo insists that Wolverhampton Wanderers were "deserved" winners against Preston North End, but admits that his side need to control games better.

Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted that his Wolverhampton Wanderers players must learn to 'manage their emotions' on the back of the 3-2 win against Preston North End.

Wolves looked to be cruising to all three points at Molineux after Leo Bonatini scored a brace to add to Ivan Cavaleiro's opener in first-half stoppage time.

Preston pulled a couple of goals back to set up a tense finale, however, with the Championship pacesetters holding on to pick up a fifth league win in six outings.

While Santo believes that the victory was fully deserved, the Portuguese concedes that Wolves must do more to manage games better.

"I think it was deserved and it's good result," he told reporters. "At 3-0, everyone at Molineux thought that the game was over but this is football and until the last minute, you cannot relax or concede so many opportunities. First half - very aggressive, there was too much holding and too many fouls.

"The referee, I think, should hold then game and control the situation but it was a fantastic second half, with four goals and this is football. Thank you for the support of the fans. We have to take a look and know how to control the situations better and take the three points without being so nervous where any ball can go in.

"Well done to the boys, always fighting and wanting to achieve more and this is the way that we have to achieve in each game. We need to know how to manage our emotions knowing that the other team has a plan, and the plan is about controlling our game and stopping us from playing - we have to find solutions to that.

"In the last game here [against Aston Villa], we saw a different situation where we played better. We must assume that today was not our best performance even though the three points is very valuable for us. When we have three goals at home, we cannot concede two - we have to manage the game better."

Wolves now turn their attention to a midweek EFL Cup tie against Manchester City, before then travelling to Queens Park Rangers next Saturday.
