Late goals from Dave Edwards and Benik Afobe earned Wolverhampton Wanderers a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Blackpool in the Championship this afternoon, keeping Kenny Jackett's men in possible contention for a playoff spot.
A scrappy opening period saw very little in the way of chances for either team, with Blackpool's Nathan Delfouneso coming closest in the first 15 minutes with an attempt that flew both high and wide of goal.
Hosts Wolves appeared to be missing the enterprise of the absent Bakary Sako, but Nouha Dicko looked to do his best when he found James Henry, who blasted over from just outside of the box.
Henry wasn't to be moved by his miss, though, and he turned in an inch-perfect ball for Kortney Hause in the centre of the box, but he couldn't finish as he guided his headed attempt past the wrong side of the post.
Rajiv van La Parra looked to push his side in front in the second half when he turned in a promising ball for Hause, only for the defender to head wide again.
The home side continued to search for an opener despite the lack of quality on show and they almost found it when Kevin McDonald played a through-ball into the path of Van La Parra, although he fired straight at Joe Lewis.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Wanderers finally grabbed the goal their dominance perhaps deserved as Van La Parra's deflected effort flew towards the back post, where Edwards was waiting to slide home.
Jackett's team sealed all three points in the last minute of the game when Afobe grabbed a goal on his debut, following a defensive mistake that allowed the youngster to walk the ball into an empty net.
