Wolverhampton Wanderers make it two wins from two in pre-season courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Cork City.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made it two wins from two in pre-season courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Cork City this evening.

Goals from Niall Ennis and Bright Enobakhare either side of half time were enough to hand the visitors the win, despite Cian Coleman giving the home side hope late on.

Kenny Jackett's side made a perfect start to the match when they took the lead after just four minutes, with Enobakhare acting as the provider by pulling the ball back for Ennis to lash home.

Ennis then won Wolves a free kick in a promising area as they pushed on for a quick second, but Lee Evans's subsequent effort flew narrowly wide and into the side-netting.

Cork hit back with a couple of openings of their own in quick succession, but Andy Lonergan was fast off his line to smother the ball at the feet of Ian Turner before Karl Sheppard's appeals for a penalty were turned down.

The first half was developing into an even contest, and the two sides once again exchanged chances midway through the opening 45 minutes when first Killian Coffey nodded just over the crossbar before Matthew Connor was forced to deny a close-range Enobakhare effort just a minute later.

Connor was needed again to push away a long-range Conor Coady strike, but Cork were quickly up the other end once more as Turner cut inside and fired a shot just past the angle.

Both keepers were being kept busy as the match continued to flow from end to end, and shortly after Lonergan held a 25-yard strike from Sheppard, Connor again found himself in action to keep out Ennis.

There were no further goals in the first half, but Cork almost levelled things up just two minutes after the restart when Sheppard cut inside from the left flank before firing an effort narrowly too high.

Sheppard continued to look the most threatening player for the hosts, and he glanced another chance wide 10 minutes into the half, but those misses proved to be costly as Wolves doubled their advantage.

Ben O'Hanlon swung a cross into the middle shortly after the hour mark which Enobakhare latched on to and nodded home from close range.

Cork initially struggled to come up with anything in reply, but their pressure began to grow as the half wore on and sub keeper Carl Ikeme was forced to field efforts from Chidozie Ogbene, Anthony McAlavey and Coleman.

The latter of those would not be denied for long, though, and he halved the deficit with eight minutes remaining when he rose unmarked in the box to power a header home.

Wolves managed to hold out, though, to continue their 100% record in pre-season ahead of Saturday's match against Port Vale.
