Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Andre has admitted that he has been waiting a year to complete a transfer to the Premier League.

Having established himself as a key player at Fluminense, the 23-year-old has since gone on to become an important player for Brazil.

However, unlike some of his compatriots, Andre has had to bide his time before making what felt like an inevitable switch to England's top flight.

Andre had been heavily linked with moves to the likes of Fulham and Liverpool during previous transfer windows before signing for Wolves on August 30, which was deadline day in England.

Within 24 hours of officially being confirmed as a Wolves player, Andre was coming off the substitutes' bench to contribute to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Andre comments on transfer, previous interest

Speaking to local media, as quoted by PL Brasil, Andre acknowledged that it took a hectic few days to fulfil what was required of him during the period before the international break.

He said: "It was pretty quick. The transfer came through on Wednesday. I travelled to England on Thursday and had my tests on Friday. Then I was called up for the game against Nottingham.

"On Saturday, I came on and made my debut for my new club. Then I flew back to Brazil to report to the national team."

Despite the situation being less than ideal in the short term, Andre admits that he has been waiting for a year to complete a transfer to the Premier League.

He added: "The relationship has always been clear between my manager, me and the board. We made an agreement. Last year, it was to focus on the Libertadores. And this year I would leave regardless of the offer that came in.

"I'm fulfilling a dream of playing in the Premier League and the Fluminense board have kept their word."

What now for Andre?

Having played 85 minutes for Brazil against Ecuador on Friday night, Andre is expected to start in a second World Cup qualifier in Paraguay on Tuesday evening.

Wolves are next in Premier League action against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, the extra day giving Andre more of a chance of being considered for his first start.

Within the following week, Wolves face a trip to Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup third round before the West Midlands derby at Aston Villa three days later.
