The agent of Rodrigo Gomes has acknowledged that Wolverhampton Wanderers have expressed an interest in signing the Braga winger.

With Fabio Silva having already joined Rangers on loan and reports indicating that Sasa Kalajdzic could also depart on a temporary basis, Wolves are in need of additions in the final third during January.

At the turn of the year, it was reported in Portugal that Gomes was a name that had been placed on their shortlist courtesy of his performances on loan at Estoril Praia.

Gomes has been in sensational form during 2023-24, already chipping in four goals and six assists from his 14 appearances in Primeira Liga.

Those contributions have come from a variety of wide positions, making the Portugal Under-21 international an obvious target for a team that uses wing-backs and interchanging forwards.

Speaking to Record, Marcelo Cipriano - the representative of Gomes - has confirmed that Wolves are one of a number of teams who are monitoring the situation.

Nevertheless, it appears that a transfer in January is unlikely, partly due to Braga having to pay a fee to Estoril if they want to cut short his loan.

Cipriano said: "Wolves are one of the many clubs that contacted me, from the five major European leagues, showing interest in Rodrigo, but I believe it's no surprise considering the excellent season he is having."

"The important thing at this moment is for Rodrigo to be calm and continue doing what he has been doing on the field.

"This way, at the end of the season there will be no shortage of proposals from good European clubs."

Later in the interview, Cipriano suggested that Gomes is more likely to leave Braga without adding to his 51 appearances for the club in 2024-25 and beyond.

There have been conflicting reports over a release clause, the most recent suggestion being that a €35m (£30.3m) buy-out option is present in his contract, which lasts until 2026.

As a result of FFP restrictions, Wolves do not have the financial leeway to commit to such figures until the summer at the earliest, with the likelihood being that they will target cheaper alternatives during the opening month of 2024. body check tags ::
