Aston Villa have reportedly been successful with a bid to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker.

On Wednesday evening, Villa suffered their fourth defeat in five Premier League matches, going down by a 2-1 scoreline at leaders Arsenal.

While Steven Gerrard admitted that he had concerns about his long-term future in the Villa dugout, the Englishman has previously revealed that the West Midlands outfit were going to attempt to sign "one or two" fresh faces.

According to The Athletic, one of the new arrivals could be Dendoncker, who has fallen down the pecking order at Molineux in recent weeks.

The Belgium international had initially started the campaign in Bruno Lage's midfield before dropping down to the substitutes' bench on the back of the signing of Matheus Nunes.

Lage said on Wednesday night that he hoped to retain the services of the 27-year-old, who has made 159 appearances in all competitions since joining from Anderlecht in 2018.

However, journalist David Ornstein has now said that Wolves have accepted a bid of €15m (£13m) for a player who can play in central defence and midfield.

With Wolves having already allowed Luke Cundle to go out on loan to Swansea City, any transfer is dependent on securing a replacement.

For a number of weeks, it has been claimed that Wolves want to bring in Metz midfielder Boubacar Traore and that transfer could now go through if Dendoncker wishes to sign for Villa.

Everton and West Ham United have also allegedly been monitoring the situation without ever meeting Wolves' valuation.
