Fernando Alonso: 'Ferrari tyre change too late'

Fernando Alonso says that Ferrari were slow to react to changing weather conditions during qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso has insisted that his team were slow in changing to dry tyres after the Ferrari driver was eliminated early in qualifying for Sunday's British Grand Prix.

The Spaniard will start from 19th on the grid and, while appearing to blame the Maranello-based outfit for failing to react in changeable conditions, Alonso suggested that a good result can still be achieved.

He told reporters: "The rain is always a lottery. It could work in your favour or against you. The two Williams and the two Ferrari cars used the wrong tyres at the wrong time.

"If you get it right, like others did, you're Saturday's hero. It's a very fine line between getting it right and getting it wrong and we got it wrong.

"The weather forecast for the race is similar to today, which means there will be intermittent rain throughout the day. It could favour us, but we will start at the back. So we have to enjoy the race. We have some overtaking to do. We have zero points on the grid."

Meanwhile, teammate Kimi Raikkonen could only muster 20th position in a disappointing session for Ferrari.
