Robert Shwartzman appears to be stepping back from his Formula 1 aspirations.

Just recently, the Ferrari reserve driver was behind the wheel of a Ferrari-powered Sauber during Friday practice for the Mexican Grand Prix.

At 25 years old, Shwartzman, who previously competed under the Russian flag but now races with an Israeli license, was handed a five-place grid penalty for a yellow flag infringement that would only apply if he ever makes a Formula 1 race start.

That scenario now looks improbable. According to Sportscar365, Shwartzman is reportedly ending his association with Ferrari, including his involvement with AF Corse in the World Endurance Championship, as he prepares to embrace an IndyCar opportunity in 2025.

The same report claims Shwartzman will compete for Prema, a Ferrari-affiliated Italian team renowned for success in F2 and F3, which is set to enter IndyCar with a two-car team next season.

"He has decided to make another choice, but maximum respect for him," commented Antonello Coletta, head of endurance racing at Ferrari. body check tags ::
