Christian Horner: 'Red Bull support Manor Formula 1 return'

Christian Horner says that Red Bull support the idea of Manor racing in Formula 1 this season.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has said that his team would support Manor's bid to return to Formula 1 in 2015.

Manor, which ran under the Marussia brand last season, came out of administration this week, but face opposition from the likes of Force India's Bob Fernley, who claimed that their proposal lacked "substance".

However, Horner, who drove for Manor in Formula Renault 2.0 in 1992, is hoping that the Oxfordshire-based outfit line up on the grid at next month's Australian Grand Prix.

He told Sky Sports News: "They deserve to be there. It's great that Ferrari has agreed to supply engines and it seems like they have some sensible people behind the team now with a bit of money to get it going. It would be great to see Manor, or whatever they've become, on the grid in Melbourne.

"I've spoken to the guys. There's not a lot we can do for them. We don't supply them any parts. They do their own chassis and they have a Ferrari engine.

"But it would be good for Formula 1 to have a blend of teams and to have 20 cars on the grid. They deserve to be there, especially after the difficulties they had at the end of last year."

Last week, Williams revealed their support for Manor to compete in the 2015 world championship.
