McLaren's Jenson Button refuses to rule out his chances of winning the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday despite starting from eighth in the grid.

McLaren's Jenson Button has said that he can win the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 32-year-old will start the race from eighth place in the grid despite finishing third in Saturday's qualifying because of a five-place grid penalty.

"If it was a straightforward race, you'd have no chance of victory from eighth," he is quoted as saying by the BBC. "But I don't think it's going to be straightforward.

"The tyres are difficult for everyone here. hey have been difficult all year but especially here with blistering and graining - strategy is going to be important.

"It's going to be a thinking drivers' race and our engineers are very good at thinking on their feet in difficult situations."

Button added that he and his McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton will give their all to win the race.

"It's not going to be easy but we'll give it everything we've got," he said.

"There will be four cars in front that will be very quick in the race, the two Red Bulls and the two Lotus. They will be tough to beat but we will still go for the win."

Button is currently sixth in the Formula 1 drivers' standings.
