Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has marginally beaten Lewis Hamilton to finish fastest in first practice at the Australian Grand Prix.
The Silver Arrows underlined their pace during the first session of the new season, as they finished over one second faster than Williams driver Valtteri Bottas in third.
Toro Rosso will be encouraged by their showing, with Carlos Sainz in fourth and 17-year-old Max Verstappen in sixth, while McLaren suffered a poor session as they finished well down in the timesheets.
Only 15 of 20 drivers set a lap time, as Romain Grosjean joined both Sauber and Manor drivers on the sidelines.
