Lewis Hamilton: 'This season my best shot at another title'

Lewis Hamilton admits that his current Mercedes car gives him his best opportunity yet of adding to the Formula 1 title that he won in 2008 this season.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has conceded that the 2014 season presents him with his best opportunity yet to add to his previous Formula 1 title.

The 29-year-old was crowned world champion at McLaren in 2008, but has since struggled to challenge Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in his era of dominance.

He made a 2013 switch to Mercedes, whose innovative engine design has given them a headstart on their rivals this year, with Hamilton and teammate Nico Rosberg each winning one of the two opening races.

They are both on the front of the grid for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, and Hamilton has admitted that he is feeling very confident in a car which gives him his best chance yet to become a two-time drivers' champion.

When asked if 2014 offered his best shot at adding a second title to his F1 CV, he told Sky Sports News: "Without a doubt.

"I feel a lot more confident with this car. I was really struggling with the car last year. With this car, I couldn't have asked for more - it feels part of my skin. It's a car which has been built for me.

"It's exciting but there's a long way to go. I'm sure Red Bull will be adding pace, and Ferrari and McLaren will be coming back."

Hamilton completed a practice clean sweep, but will start second behind Rosberg in Bahrain.
