Lewis Hamilton has said that he is puzzled by his collision with Valtteri Bottas at the Brazilian Grand Prix, which saw him finish in ninth place at Interlagos.

The Mercedes driver, who was in fourth place, was deemed to have caused the incident with the Williams by under-breaking as the Finn tried to un-lap himself into Descida do Lago.

Hamilton suffered a puncture, and was also given a drive-through penalty by race stewards, but ultimately it did not cost his team second place in the team championship.

"I guess I caused a collision - but with a backmarker trying to overtake me," AutoSport quotes the 28-year-old as saying. "I don't really know what happened, if I'm honest, I need to go and watch the replay.

"I really can't quite work it out. I moved to the left. He outbraked me and we touched. Obviously I did something wrong. I'm a bit gutted that I lost so many points for the team."

Bottas was forced to retire following the incident.
