Mercedes's Nico Rosberg has done the double by posting the fastest time in both practice sessions ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
It took a while for the drivers to emerge onto the track due to the wet conditions, which worsened as the session went on, resulting in full wets being used as opposed to intermediate tyres.
Heikki Kovalainen was the first to record a timed lap for Lotus, but the Finnish driver complained of the conditions, claiming that he was aquaplaning slightly.
Rosberg, who topped the first session, clocked another strong time on the track, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton was reluctant to follow suit.
Red Bull's Mark Webber, who will leave Formula 1 following the race this Sunday, initially secured the second fastest time, while Fernando Alonso recorded a lap time on intermediates in the Ferrari.
Champion Sebastian Vettel only entered the track within 25 minutes of the session ending, but managed to leapfrog teammate Webber and Rosberg into top spot in the standings, until Rosberg took his number one spot back by being 0.225 seconds faster that the German.
Hamilton eventually came onto the track and did a full 360 spin, but had enough run-off to ensure that his Mercedes remained intact.
