Michael Schumacher is confident that Mercedes can get points on the board in the Malaysian Grand Prix this Sunday.

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has claimed that he is looking forward to competing in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, despite disappointment in Australia.

The seven-time world champion was forced to retire in lap 11 in Melbourne due to a problem with his car's gearbox.

Schumacher's fellow countryman Nico Rosberg also failed to put points on the board, which meant that last weekend's race was the fourth time in 39 Grands Prix that Mercedes missed out on any points.

"Overall it is a big challenge for man and machine," said Schumacher. "I'm looking forward to it, despite the disappointment of how the first race turned out.

"I've a big sense of anticipation. We saw in Australia our car is capable of putting us in the mix.

"Of course, we haven't forgotten the circuit in Melbourne is not really representative of the true competitive picture. But nevertheless the car gives me a good feeling for the season ahead."

Meanwhile, McLaren driver Jenson Button kicked off the new season with a victory in Australia.
