Mick Schumacher is tenaciously pursuing his goal of rejoining Formula 1 and seems to have made significant progress this past week.
The ex-Haas competitor is a strong contender for the ousted Esteban Ocon's seat next year and recently participated in a direct comparison test with Jack Doohan, driving a two-year-old Alpine at the Paul Ricard circuit.
The Renault-owned F1 team has remained reserved about the outcomes of the test.
"From what I know from Alpine, it was a super test for him," Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes where Schumacher serves as a reserve driver, shared with Sky Deutschland at Silverstone.
"He really delivered and I'm happy to hear it," he continued. "That's the message I got. They are super happy, but that was to be expected."
Current discussions suggest that while Doohan might be favored for the Alpine seat next year, Schumacher could potentially be placed with Mercedes-supported Williams.
James Vowles, the head of Williams and a previous colleague of Wolff at Mercedes, hinted at a possible early replacement for the underperforming Logan Sargeant within the year 2024.
"We're continually evaluating it," he acknowledged at Silverstone. "We're open-minded to things."
Regarding Schumacher, the 25-year-old son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, Vowles was reported by DPA news agency as saying, "He's a world-class driver." body check tags ::
