Maria de Villota says that she is planning on living life to the full after recovering from her accident in July.

Maria de Villota has opened up about the accident which cost her her right eye in her first public appearance since her recovery.

The Marussia Formula 1 driver revealed that the ordeal has made her reassess her life, insisting that she plans on living it to the full.

"Before the accident I only saw Formula 1, inside a car, competing. I didn't see what was really important in life," De Villota told Autosport.

"So this eye has made me find the way again and I'm seeing it that way. And this new opportunity I'm going to live it at 100%."

De Villota said that she is unsure whether she has a future in motor racing, but will dedicate her time and resources helping to improve safety in Formula 1 test sessions.

"We all want to see if there are lessons to learn from what happened, so we can avoid accidents like that in the future," she told Spain's Hola magazine.

"My intention is to help with a view to the future, improve safety, especially in aero tests, because at the circuits everything is under control, but not in this kind of test."

De Vittola is the daughter of former Formula 1 driver Emilio.
