Christian Horner: 'No upgrades on power units until Russian GP in October'

Christian Horner reveals that the Red Bull drivers will not be getting power unit upgrades on their car until October, despite ongoing engine problems.

Christian Horner has revealed that the Red Bull team will not be upgrading the car's power units until the Russian Grand Prix in October, meaning that Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat will have have to get through the next five races without picking up any more penalties.

The Red Bull pair put on a fine showing in the second practice showing of the Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing second and third fastest behind Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes.

However, Ricciardo's car continues to have engine problems - an issue Horner recognises but reveals will be looked at when they arrive in Sochi later this year.

"I don't think anything's scheduled now before Sochi," the Red Bull team boss told Sky Sports News.

"That's probably going to be the earliest before we see any development or use of tokens. So the engines we've got at the moment are what we're having to live with for the time being.

"Engines four and five are what the drivers have been using between Friday and Sunday racing - unfortunately Ricciardo has now lost engine four, so he's only got engine five that came into service for the first time in Austria to get him through the next few races."

Despite having more engine issues in the practice sessions in Hungary, Ricciardo will not face further penalties due to it being his fourth engine of the season.
