In an effort to inject more excitement into Formula 1 races in 2024, Pirelli is taking deliberate steps.

Just three races into the championship, it's becoming evident that Max Verstappen and Red Bull are poised to continue their streak of dominance. However, Pirelli, the exclusive tyre provider for the sport, in collaboration with F1's commercial rights holder Liberty Media, pledges to add an extra layer of intrigue to the competitions.

Mario Isola, the head of Pirelli F1, explained to DAZN the rationale behind choosing unusually softer tyre compounds for Melbourne, stating, "To make life difficult for the drivers and to have more spectacle on the track."

He acknowledged that the selection of tyre compounds was notably more "aggressive" than in previous years.

"We hope to see two stop races instead of one stoppers like last year," Isola expressed of his intention.

"We want most of the races to be like that," he further confessed. "For example, here we have seen some graining, which for them is a problem, but for us it means a bigger show."

"The cars and drivers are different and use the tyres in different ways," he continued. "We saw here that the Red Bull does not seem so unbeatable. I hope that's right, not for Red Bull but at least we will have a better show." body check tags ::
