Sportscar manufacturer Aston Martin are reportedly in negotiations with Red Bull, with the possibility of moving into Formula 1 from 2016.
Red Bull have struggled to compete with champions' Mercedes and have had a public spat with engine supplier Renault over the lack of pace and reliability from its 2015 power units.
The Milton Keynes-based organisation have been linked with a buyout by Volkswagen and were believed to be in talks with Ferrari over a new engine deal.
However, Autocar claims that the four-time constructors' champions are now in negotiations with Aston Martin and could end their existing agreement with Renault at the end of this season.
It is thought that the deal would see Red Bull running rebranded Mercedes engines from 2016, with the luxury car brand becoming the team's technical partner.
Mercedes, who own a stake in Aston Martin, are said to be in favour of the deal as it would help towards the costs of developing their engines by having another customer.
