The protests by frustrated Renault F1 engine staff appear to have led to action and hope.

Renault CEO Luca de Meo has assured that a final decision on scrapping the works F1 engine project for Alpine from 2026 is still pending.

According to the AFP news agency, a conclusive report on the matter is expected by September 30.

Workers at Renault's F1 engine facility in Viry-Chatillon have been guaranteed that regardless of the outcome, they will be offered alternative roles within Formula E, rallying, or emerging technologies.

However, supported by a strong union presence, the employees have staged several strikes and protests, including demonstrations in the grandstands at Monza and outside de Meo's office.

As a result of these efforts, de Meo has now agreed to meet with the staff. The meeting is set for September 20, ten days before the final report and decision are revealed.

In a statement, Alpine's French-based social and economic council confirmed that employees intend to use the meeting to "bring to his attention the incomprehension linked to the end of the development of the F1 engine in France."

"The staff representatives thank Mr de Meo for having responded favourably to this request," L'Equipe sports newspaper quoted the statement as concluding.
