Renault-owned Alpine and Honda have been handed six-figure fines by the FIA for breaching the engine budget cap in 2023.

Both manufacturers faced penalties after being found guilty of "procedural breaches" regarding the new engine cost caps introduced last year, which also apply to Ferrari and Mercedes.

According to the FIA, neither Honda nor Alpine exceeded the actual cost cap limit. In fact, they acted "in good faith" as they navigated the complexities of the new financial regulations. Despite this, they fell foul of filing and reporting procedures.

The governing body has now reached "accepted breach agreements" with both companies.

Honda, which supplies engines to Red Bull, received the higher penalty, a $600,000 fine plus administrative costs. The FIA noted that there was "no evidence" Honda sought to gain an advantage through these inaccuracies, as they remained under the 2023 budget cap.

The FIA pointed out that the breach was due to Honda's failure to properly file reporting documentation on things like dyno maintenance costs.

Renault-Alpine's fine was set at $400,000, with the FIA similarly emphasizing that the team also spent below the cost cap but failed to provide "relevant information" in their reports. Several mandatory procedures were either incomplete or not performed at all, the FIA said.

Both engine suppliers must pay the fines within 30 days and are not allowed to appeal the penalties. body check tags ::
