World number two Jordan Spieth reveals his excitement as he prepares for his first round at St Andrews as a professional.

Jordan Spieth has revealed his excitement as he prepares to take on St Andrews for the first time as a professional.

The world number two will be the man to beat this week after his victories in The Masters and the US Open, and he warmed up for the third Major of the year by triumphing in the John Deere Classic at the weekend.

Spieth's only previous experience at St Andrews was a practice round in 2011, and he was unable to hide his admiration for the course as his preparations continue.

"The golf course specifically, it's just mind boggling that it can stand the test of time and still host Major championship centuries after it was built," he told Sky Sports News.

"It's just had minor tweaks here and there. It has yielded very low scores, which is why it's advantageous.

"To feel like you are making a lot of birdies, to feel like you need to so you can be a bit more aggressive than you would normally start a Major championship."

Spieth can replace the injured Rory McIlroy at the top of the world rankings with a victory this week.
