Sam Torrance has criticised Sir Nick Faldo for the comments he made about Sergio Garcia during Europe's Ryder Cup triumph at Gleneagles.
Faldo labelled Garcia "useless" while he was reflecting on his unsuccessful stint as captain in 2008, and Torrance admits that he was shocked by the former world number one's decision to target the Spaniard as Europe went in search of victory over the USA.
"Really, it was pathetic from Faldo. I've no idea where he was coming from with that stuff. You can even quote me on that, I don't care," the Scot, who served as one of Paul McGinley's vice-captains, told Bunkered.
"It was beyond belief that one of our greatest-ever players would come out with a comment like that.
"Garcia's not a team player? Have a look in the mirror, pal. Garcia's one of the best team players we have. He's an incredible kid, with the heart of a lion and he's incredible in the team room."
Garcia has played in seven Ryder Cups, finishing on the winning team on five of those occasions.
