Luke Donald to consider dropping European Tour due to fall in world rankings

Luke Donald admits that he may consider dropping out of the European Tour if his 60th position in the world rankings doesn't improve by next year.

Luke Donald has revealed that he may consider giving up the European Tour due to his slip down the world rankings.

The Englishman is currently 60th in the world and has admitted that he would "seriously" have to think about committing himself purely to the PGA Tour if his ranking continues to drop.

Paul Casey has pulled himself out of the European Tour, but Donald, who is competing in the BMW PGA Championship, which he has won twice, this week, has insisted that he would rather be a member of both Tours.

"With my world ranking sliding I'd have to seriously consider something like that next year if it doesn't get any better," The Guardian quotes Donald as saying. "If you're not in the majors and world events, to play both tours, you're just thinning yourself out too much or you would have to play 30, 35 events for the year.

"So that's something I would have to consider. I haven't even got close to thinking about that yet but I would dearly love to continue being a member of both tours and obviously to have the chance to play in the Ryder Cup."

On Monday, the top 60 in the world will qualify for the US Open, while the top 50 will be handed places at the British Open.
