Jack Nicklaus has given his support to Tiger Woods after the struggling former world number one posted a career-worst round of 85 at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio.
It is the second time this year that Woods, 39, has posted a career-worst round, and his second score in the 80s in his last 12 outings.
"I'm not only surprised, I feel very bad for him. He has struggled healthwise. He has struggled with his short game earlier in the year," 18-time major champion Nicklaus told CBS.
"He feels like he's coming back and then does this. I don't have an answer for it, an explanation, I'm sure he probably doesn't either.
"He's the only one who really knows what's going on. He's got such a great work ethic, and the game needs you, Tiger."
Woods begins the final round dead last in 71st place, six shots behind 70th-placed Lucas Glover.
