Marcel Siem holds nerve to win Indian Open

Germany's Marcel Siem ends a near nine-year wait for another DP World Tour title with a one-shot victory at the Indian Open.

Marcel Siem has claimed his first DP World Tour title since 2014 with a one-shot victory at the Indian Open.

The 42-year-old has been required to spend time on the Challenge Tour to reclaim his Tour Card and rediscover some form, and the German got his rewards for his perseverance in New Delhi.

Siem has recently built some confidence, earning three top 20s in his last four starts, with those performances contributing to arguably the most important victory of his career.

The world number 337 recorded a final-round 68 to better compatriot Yannik Paul's 70, yet the tournament was only decided on the final hole.

Holding a one-shot advantage, Siem attempted to lay up on the 624-yard par five, only to send his second shot into the heavy rough and Paul find the fairway.

After Paul left himself 12 feet for birdie, Siem barely cleared the water to set up a long putt up the slope, and his subsequent effort was left short to hand Paul a chance of edging ahead.

However, Paul failed to convert, and Siem held his nerve to hole a three-footer for par to seal a win which catapults him up to eighth place in the Race To Dubai Rankings.

Joost Luiten finished in third, two shots adrift of Siem but four clear of fourth, which was occupied by Jorge Campillo and Kazuki Higa.

Euan Walker, the world number 558, was the best of the British contingent as the Scottish player earned a share of 13th position.

Alex Fitzpatrick, the younger brother of US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, marked his first appearance of the season with a tied-25th. body check tags ::
