Rory McIlroy has won his first event of 2013, albeit an exhibition, by edging out Tiger Woods in a one-on-one match at Mission Hills Golf Club on the Chinese island of Hainan.
The Northern Irishman beat world number one Woods by a single shot thanks to a six-under-par round of 67, making it two wins in a row over Woods at the one-on-one event.
McIlroy's lack of wins in 2013 is a far cry from the 2012 season when he won five tournaments, including a second Major at the US PGA Championship.
The 24-year-old will now contest the HSBC Champions in Shanghai and the Turkish Airlines Open in an effort to climb into the top 60 in the Race to Dubai, which will guarantee a place at the DP World Tour Championship next month.
