Rory McIlroy has claimed that his first-round performance in the BMW Masters was 'solid but not spectacular'.
The world number one is five shots behind leader Jamie Donaldson but was left subdued by his fourth-place finish after the opening day.
"It was okay," said McIlroy. "I didn't feel I did anything spectacularly out there. I just played some solid golf.
"The targets on this golf course are big... big fairway, big greens so you're going to give yourself plenty of chances out there.
"It was a good, solid round of golf."
Tiger Woods recently insisted that he is relishing his rivalry with McIlroy at the top of the world rankings.
