US Open Champion Rory McIlroy shares the early lead with German Martin Kaymer at the European Masters after an opening six-under round of 65.
The 22-year-old carded seven birdies in the Swiss Alps on the idyllic Crans-sur-Sierre course.
"It's great to get off to a good start at the tournament and hopefully I can keep it going," the Northern Irishman told Sky Sports.
McIlroy injured his wrist in last month's USPGA Championship and took a short break away from the game, reportedly spending time with new girlfriend, tennis world number one Caroline Wozniacki.
Asked about the injury, he added: "It's totally fine, I've had a good bit of treatment on it the last couple of weeks and just rested it and it feels really good, nearly back to 100% so I'm happy with that."
The event in Switzerland is the first chance to register qualifying points for next year's Ryder Cup in Medina.
