Phil Mickelson has claimed that his aim of winning the US Open in 2014 is closely followed by his desire to help USA regain the Ryder Cup.

The US Open is the only Major tournament that Mickelson has not won but he believes that the success will eventually come to him.

"I do believe that I'll win a US Open," the world number five told reporters. "I don't know it's at Pinehurst this year, very well could be, or in the future.

"But I play well in that tournament too often to not believe or be confident in my ability to close that tournament out."

Mickelson was also quick to acknowledge that winning the Ryder Cup was high on his list of priorities.

"To be part of a winning team at Gleneagles would be really special. I thought we had this last one and let it slide, a four-point lead we let get away," the 43-year-old added.

Five-time Major winner Mickelson has finished runner-up at the US Open on six occasions.
