Jordan Spieth: 'I'm not running on empty'

Jordan Spieth insists that he will not let his gruelling schedule get the better of him, claiming that he does not feel worn out heading into his latest event.

World number two Jordan Spieth has insisted that he is not at risk of suffering from burnout, despite his gruelling recent schedule.

The 21-year-old, who is in contention to become the youngest winner of a WGC event by almost two years should he prevail at the Match Play Championship this week, has experienced a hectic month following on from his Masters triumph at Augusta.

Spieth is currently on a high after claiming two wins and two runner-up finishes from his last five events, with the other seeing him tied for 11th place, although he insists that he still has plenty left in the tank.

"Being in contention in four straight weeks takes something out of you but I slept for a couple of days when I got home and I'm back at work," he told reporters.

"Having accomplished some of my major goals in the sport of golf and inching closer to more goals that I have, why not work as hard as I can to obtain those goals if I'm already playing well and getting more and more comfortable?

"That's exciting to me and makes me want to work harder and harder and I don't really feel worn out. I think I have my schedule the right way to give myself enough breaks to not be tired at the end of the year."

Spieth will take on Lee Westwood, Matt Every and Mikko Ilonen in the first round of the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship.
