Austria's Sepp Straka makes history with Honda Classic win

Sepp Straka has recorded a one-shot victory at the Honda Classic, becoming the first Austrian player to win a PGA Tour event.

Ahead of the closing round in Florida, the world number 176 was one of a number of outsiders hoping to challenge Daniel Berger, who held a five-shot lead.

However, Berger dropped four shots over the opening six holes, allowing Straka and his rivals back into contention to set up an entertaining close to the tournament.

At one stage, Ireland's Shane Lowry looked on course to win in the United States for the first time since 2015, but Straka birdied three of his closing five holes to edge out the former Open champion who had needed to hole a 43-and-a-half-foot putt to force a playoff.

Kurt Kitayama claimed third spot on his own, helped by Berger sending his approach on the last into the water.

Brooks Koepka closed a solid tournament with round of 69, earning a share of 16th position, while England's Callum Tarren and Ian Poulter were in a tie for 30th spot. body check tags ::
