Tiger Woods is considering playing in one of the PGA Tour's Fall Series events in a bid to justify selection for the Presidents Cup in November.

Tiger Woods has said he is considering playing in a PGA Tour Fall Series event in a bid to to justify being selected for the American Presidents Cup team.

Captain of the US team, Fred Couples, has indicated that he wants Woods get more tournaments under his belt before the tournament in November.

Woods, 35, failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, a four-tournament knockout event for the top 125 players on the PGA Tour.

This means the next event that Woods can take part in is the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin, which starts on September 29.

"I've had some conversations with US captain Fred Couples, and we'll see how it goes. Of course, I want to be on the team. I'm just going to keep practising and try to get better," he said on his official website.

"It's Freddie's call, and he can make any choice he wants.

"I might add another PGA Tour event to my schedule. Right now, I'm looking at my options."

The Presidents Cup is a team tournament where the US take on an international team comprising players from anywhere outside Europe.

This year's event takes place at Royal Melbourne between November 17 and 20.
