Jason Day shoots a final-round 67 to win the US PGA Championship in Wisconsin for his first Major title.

Jason Day held off a challenge from Jordan Spieth to win the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and bring an end to his hoodoo in Major tournaments.

Having been knocking on the door for a number of years, the Australian finally broke his duck on the big stage by keeping his American counterpart - who was hunting a third Major in 2015 - at arm's length throughout a thrilling final round in Wisconsin.

His round of 67 this morning was enough to clinch a 20-under-par victory as the overnight leader kept his cool to finish three strokes clear of playing partner Spieth, who shot 68. As a bonus, record-breaking Day posted the lowest winning score in the history of a Major.

Day finished runner-up in the US Open on two occasions, and flirted with Masters success by coming second and third in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

More recently, the 27-year-old came close to securing a playoff place at The Open in July, but his final putt let him down.

Further back, South Africa's Branden Grace concluded his weekend in third on 15-under, while 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose ended up one shot back in fourth after the Englishman shot 70.

Rory McIlroy, who missed last month's Major at St Andrews through injury, finished his tournament on nine-under.
