Daniel Brooks will head into the second round of the Nelson Mandela Championship with a one-shot lead.
The Englishman hit an eight-under-par 62 on a rain-delayed opening day of the tournament at Durban's Mount Edgecombe course on Wednesday.
"It's been a long day," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying.
"I was completely focused on getting to the 18th tee box when we got called in. That probably helped, in a way, because I just kept playing and the result was good.
"I pretty much holed everything I looked at, which was quite nice. I haven't putted that great over the last couple of weeks, so to hole a few was pretty nice."
Frenchman Francois Calmels is second in the leaderboard, with more than half of the players still to complete their first rounds at the end of Wednesday due to rain that stopped play for almost seven hours.
