England's Matt Fitzpatrick wins the shortened and delayed Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Matt Fitzpatrick has solidified his place in the world's top 10 with victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

As a result of the heavy rain that battered Scotland over the weekend, the conclusion of the tournament was delayed until Monday and shortened to 54 holes.

With a three-round cut courtesy of St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns being used, it left for a busy Monday, a shotgun start being required to conclude the tournament as soon as possible.

Fitzpatrick, who was a part of Europe's winning Ryder Cup team, topped the leaderboard heading into the final 18 holes and that is how it stayed, with the Englishman producing a 66 at St. Andrews.

The 2022 US Open champion was also victorious in the team event alongside mother Susan Fitzpatrick, capping one of the best periods of his career.

Last year's winner Ryan Fox finished in a share of second alongside Matthew Southgate and Marcus Armitage, three shots adrift of the victor.

Sweden's Sebastian Soderberg posted a sensational 62 at Kingsbarns to catapult himself into fifth position.

Robert MacIntyre and Tommy Fleetwood - the other two 2023 Ryder Cup players in the field - had to make do with 26th and 84th spot respectively. body check tags ::
