Matthieu Pavon has prevailed at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, becoming the first French winner on the PGA Tour since 1907.

Pavon's victory at the Spanish Open in October catapulted him into contention for one of 10 dual memberships on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, the 31-year-old having only made 10 appearances Stateside before this week.

However, Pavon has now earned himself entry into all four majors and all of the designated events on the PGA Tour after holing a birdie from just under eight feet on the final hole.

On the 17th, Pavon had missed a par putt from three feet to open the door to the likes of Nicolai Hojgaard and Stephan Jaeger, who had led earlier in the day.

His opening two shots on the par-five 18th also found the rough, giving further encouragement to his rivals, yet a sensational approach into the green set up his chance to make history.

Hojgaard had to settle for runner-up, with his round of 70 one shot more than Pavon's 69 which ultimately made the difference, while Jaeger, Nate Lashley and Jake Knapp shared third position.

Tony Finau was among those who were in a tie for sixth spot, with the likes of Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg also featuring in the top 10.

Ireland's Shane Lowry finished in 25th position, while Aaron Rai was the best of the English contingent as he claimed 33rd place.
