Vaughn Taylor has won his first PGA Tour title in 11 years at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a seven-under-par 65.
The 39-year-old American, who was included in the tournament on Monday as a first reserve, seized the opportunity when Phil Mickelson relinquished his overnight lead.
The five-time Major winner missed a birdie putt from five feet on the 18th hole, which resulted in a playoff.
Taylor, who was ranked 447th in the world at the beginning of the tournament, secured triumph on 17-under and has now booked himself a spot in the field at The Masters in Augusta this April.
World number one Jordan Spieth finished the tournament tied for 21st.
