  • The 42nd Ryder Cup is being held at Le Golf National, Paris
  • Europe overturned a 3-1 deficit to lead 5-3 after day one, making Ryder Cup history with their first foursomes whitewash
  • USA again felt the heat on the second day as Europe opened up an 8-4 advantage following a dominant morning

1700 Spieth and Thomas see their match out, beating Poulter and McIlroy 4&3. Europe have a 10-6 lead heading into tomorrow. What a day!

Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari have won all four matches in Paris this week (Gareth Fuller/PA

1651 Watson told Sky Sports: "When you hear the cheers, it gets to you. We made so many putts today and that kept us in it. We have got to play good tomorrow."

1650 Simpson and Watson complete an emphatic win for the USA. They beat Garcia and Noren 3&2 to make it 10-5. Poulter holes a crucial putt to take his match to the 15th hole. Him and McIlroy are four down though.

1646 Stenson told Sky Sports: "It was a tough match. It was very interesting. There were a couple of big putts I managed to squeeze in. It feels awesome."

1640 Koepka misses a putt to keep the match alive, meaning Rose and Stenson secure a 2&1 triumph. Europe lead 10-4, although the USA are expected to win the two matches still in play.

1638 'Moliwood' complete a trouncing of Woods and Dechambeau, winning 5&4. They become the first European pair to win four matches in four sessions at a single Ryder Cup. Rose and Stenson stay one up with two to play, but Spieth and Thomas are four ahead against McIlroy and Poulter.

1626 Stenson shows nerves of steel over an eight-foot putt to prevent the USA drawing level. Outstanding. Simpson produces a fine shot to leave Watson with an eagle opportunity on the 14th. The 39-year-old grabs the chance with both hands to move four holes up on Garcia and Noren.

1620 The first game of the afternoon is getting tense as we reach the business end. Rose and Stenson are now only one up with three to go after the Englishman missed from eight foot.

1610 Fleetwood halts the Americans' brief comeback by sinking a near 10-foot putt, sending the crowd into raptures. Him and Molinari are back to four up through 12.

1600 What a putt from 25 foot! Thomas roars with delight after claiming another hole on Poulter and McIlroy. Him and Spieth are three up.

1552 Woods completes back-to-back birdies to cut the deficit to 'Moliwood' to three with seven holes to play. McIlroy comes up just short with a monster putt.

1547 Woods makes his first birdie of the day to pull a hole back for the USA, with Fleetwood narrowly missing to halve the hole. Rose and Stenson regain their two-hole lead after the former sinks a crucial putt from 10 foot.

Tiger Woods misses a putt on the eighth (Gareth Fuller/PA)

1540 Fleetwood and Molinari are five up after the Englishman converts a three-foot putt. Johnson and Koepka get a birdie on the 12th, reducing Stenson and Rose's lead to one.

1525 Thomas' two-foot putt seals another hole for the USA. McIlroy and Poulter have work to do.

1513 Woods is not himself out there, six days after winning the Tour Championship. He misses a par putt and Fleetwood punishes him. Four up!

1510 It appears the USA are getting at least one point this afternoon as Watson and Simpson continue their dominance over Garcia and Noren. The Americans are four up through eight following five birdies.

1500 Noren's putt does not fall in, handing Watson and Simpson a three-hole advantage. McIlroy has struggled since his little tantrum, carding a triple-bogey, par, and now bogey as Spieth and Thomas move one up. What a comeback! As it stands, its two apiece in this session.

1455 Woods and Dechambeau have no answers to Fleetwood and Molinari. The European duo are three up after six. No European pairing have ever won their first four matches together. That could be about to change.

1445 Thomas and Spieth took time to settle this afternoon but they are back in the groove now. The pair win two holes in a row, this time courtesy of Spieth's birdie putt, to move back all square with McIlroy and Poulter.

1440 McIlroy and Poulter pay the price for that poor effort off the tee on the fourth as they give a shot back to the Americans. Watson and Simpson then get their two-hole advantage back, the former making a six-foot putt for a third birdie, while Stenson and Rose eventually move ahead after eight. It's all happening!

1430 After an impressive approach from Stenson, Rose narrowly misses the chance to move one ahead, seven holes in against Johnson and Koepka.

1420 McIlroy, perhaps too vocal, then sends his tee shot way right on the next. Noren and Garcia win the fifth to move one behind Watson and Simpson.

1414 McIlroy is fired up! We have seen that before. The Northern Irishman holes from six foot for a half on the third and turns to the crowd with plenty of verbals and hand action.

1405 Fleetwood is not missing, converting another putt to leave him and Molinari two ahead. Watson and Simpson are two up on Garcia and Noren, though.

1355 Spieth and Thomas may have won that last match of the morning session, but the pair are struggling against McIlroy and Poulter. The Europeans move two up following two American bogies.

Jim Furyk knows the USA have it all to do (Adam Davy/PA)

1350 Blue is the colour again! Thomas cannot sink a 15-foot putt after Spieth found the bunker, leaving McIlroy and Poulter one ahead. Rose and Stenson are back all square.

1345 Ian Poulter, playing with Rory McIlroy again, produces an excellent shot off the tee to get his game with Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth up and running. DeChambeau's putt to win the second hole lips out following Woods' brilliant tee shot.

1332 There is just no stopping Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood. The Italian holes a putt which wins the first hole against Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau.

1330 Some players fancy a swim on the second hole this afternoon! Watson fires into the drink and, somehow, Noren replicates his opponent. Simpson does the same moments later. The radars are off! Mistakes are creeping in.

1316 The USA are on the march! Stenson and Rose fail to recover as Johnson and Koepka take the opening hole, while Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson are also one up over Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren.

1310 Thomas told Sky Sports: "We need to get closer, this session is huge. It is so easy to look at the scoreboard, but we are not at the halfway point of this golf tournament. Things have not gone our way. Hopefully this will turn the momentum around."

1300 A nervy moment for Stenson there as he almost finds the drink on the opening hole! Rose comes to his rescue with a fine chip onto the green. Are nerves setting in?

1255 USA stop the rot with victory in the final match of the morning fourballs. Thomas produces another fine putt to secure him and Spieth a 2&1 win over Poulter and Rahm. Europe lead 8-4. A big afternoon awaits!

Fans perform the thunder clap in Paris (Gareth Fuller/PA)

1250 The first of the afternoon foursomes is getting started with Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson taking on Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka.

1240 Thomas shows nerves of steel to hole a crucial putt and keep the USA one up heading to the 17th hole.

1235 Fleetwood told Sky Sports: "We just started riding the wave on the back nine when Fran was playing great. It is just incredible the feelings, the highs and lows you feel. We go again this afternoon, that is what we are here for. There is not 14 and a half points on the board yet."

1225 The Saturday foursomes have been announced and the big news is Phil Mickelson misses out. Fleetwood and Molinari are partnered once more against Tiger and Bryson DeChambeau.

1220 Europe, who registered their first-ever foursomes whitewash on Friday, also equalled another record in the morning fourballs as they equalled another record on Saturday with the most points in consecutive sessions at seven.

1213 Fleetwood and Molinari make it three wins from three in this year's competition after a 4&3 victory against Woods and out-of-form "Mr America" Patrick Reed.

1206 Sergio Garcia hailed Le Golf National's atmosphere as he holed the winning putt to secure Europe's sixth successive match win. He told Sky Sports: "It was amazing. I think we played great all day. Obviously they started coming hard at us the last few holes, a couple little mistakes here and there, but we knew that we just had to keep giving ourselves chances."

1201 Reed, who gave the 'shush' sign earlier, finds the water at the 15th as Molinari sticks it in the heart of the green. A European record is on the horizon.

1157 Like London buses, two wins come at once as Casey and Hatton complete a 3&2 victory against world number Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

1151 Six straight matches for Europe as Koepka misses a match-extending birdie putt for McIlroy and Garcia to complete a 2&1 win.

1148 Vintage McIlroy at the penultimate hole with a huge par putt. But Garcia can do one better with a birdie from 25 foot. Pressure on America.

1144 Johnson holes it, but Hatton can still claim victory only for his putt to miss the left edge of the cup with a slap of the club to follow.

1141 Fowler finds water and Casey has the chance to win the match but his chip just misses. Johnson has a difficult putt to come too.

1133 Wow. Finau drains a lengthy birdie putt at the 16th and they clearly have momentum now. Three in a row for America and only one behind with two left to play.

1129 Casey rattles in his sixth birdie of the day as the 41-year-old and Tyrrell Hatton move three up with four holes left.

1122 Garcia also hit the wet stuff but almost holes out his fourth shot at the 15th. Koepka misses a three-footer for the win, however Finau saves his partner to win their second hole in a row.

1116 Molinari stick it close at the 13th, shortly after Woods dumped his approach in the water. Chance for three-in-a-row for the Italian and Fleetwood.

1106 Johnson holes his close-range putt but Hatton matches the American to maintain a two-hole advantage.

1105 There is red on the board! Spieth drains a huge birdie putt and they regain the lead for the first time since the third hole. One up with seven holes remaining.

1103 Koepka almost holes out from the rough for an eagle. Garcia sink his birdie putt and the lead is reduced to three holes with four left to play.

1100 Reed continues to struggle and rolls one off the green at the 12th. Ahead of them, Hatton hits a great approach to eight feet but Johnson responds and gets it even closer.

1054 Poulter misses a 12-footer which would have turned the hole scoreboard once again. The top three are ahead and the anchor match is all square.

1048 Molinari converts the birdie putt after Woods' attempt pulled up short to give the Europeans a one-up lead after 11 holes.

1040 Wow. Just wow from Molinari. The Italian almost hits back to the Americans levelling up the match with an ace at the 11th. The ball just misses the cup but has a tap-in birdie in his sights.

1033 Fleetwood then Molinari miss their birdie putts to give Woods a huge chance to level the third fourballs. Can he make it?

1032 Johnson sinks a birdie putt at the par-three 11th to cut Hatton and Casey's lead to two holes.

1028 Woods nails his approach at the 10th to three feet to put Molinari under pressure, but the Italian gets his second shot to seven feet while Fleetwood is slightly further out.

1025 McIlroy rolls in Europe's opening pair's seventh gain at the 12th. Finau holds his nerve this time and matches it. Four up with six holes remaining.

1015 Spieth's birdie at the eighth records America's fifth collective hole of the day to halt Poulter and Rahm and put white on the scoreboard.

1008 McIlroy is inches from chipping in from the rough but Garcia sneaks in his birdie putt to pile the pressure on Finau. The American crumbles from three feet and the Europe pair lead four up with seven to play.

0959 Poulter turns the whole scoreboard blue (despite playing in red) with a great birdie putt at the seventh.

0949 Tiger is almost playing on his own in America's third fourballs match and  he gets his reward as he rolls in his first gain of the day to pull a hole back at the seventh.

0946 Koepka pulls one back in the opening fourballs to reduce the deficit to three holes at the ninth. Hatton's lengthy birdie putt at the eighth moves the English pair to the same scoreline.

0936 Poulter holds his nerve from six foot to earn a half at the sixth to keep the final fourballs all square.

0931 Hatton narrowly misses a huge putt birdie putt but Johnson halves with a par. The English duo maintain their two-up advantage.

0919 McIlroy drains a monster 30-foot putt for a gain and Finau misses from eight to put Europe's opening pair four up through eight holes.

0914 Casey holes a long birdie putt at the sixth, and Dustin Johnson cannot match and the English pair move two up.

0906 No! Thomas pushes a six-foot putt past the hole and Poulter/Rahm make it all square.

0900 Poulter sticks his approach to the fourth to eight feet, but Rahm goes better and lands within two feet. Can Spieth and Thomas match them?

0855 Mcilroy and Garcia dial in close at the sixth and the former rolls in for birdie to put them three up against Finau and Koepka. Europe still lead in three of the four matches.

0845 However, Casey matches Fowler as he lands his second about six feet from the pin.

0843 Stunning approach at the fifth by Fowler as they look to level up the second fourballs. Reed's struggles continue as he finds the very, very thick stuff just behind.

0837 Casey holes a birdie at the fourth as Europe lead three matches. Molinari narrowly misses a length eagle putt but Woods cannot drain his birdie effort as the Italian and Fleetwood move two up.

0830 Spieth turns the board red for the first time today with a tap-in birdie after his stunning approach to the second.

0827 Reed is struggling in the third match as his tee-shot at the third finds a stream on the right, and the same goes for Rahm just behind as his opening two tee-shots find the water

0821 Garcia makes birdie at the fourth to move two up against Finau/Koepka. Spieth dials to within five feet at the par-three second.

0813 Fleetwood nails a 20-foot birdie putt to win the second hole shortly after Woods' attempt from similar range pulled up short. Europe are ahead in two matches and all square in the other two. Great start!

0805 A superb bunker shot at the third from McIlroy puts Europe one up in the first fourballs. Tiger Woods cannot hole his birdie putt for the win at the first against Molinari/Fleetwood.

0800 Captain Thomas Bjorn has warned his players to expect a USA backlash on Saturday morning. He told the Golf Channel: "I didn't really have to tell them much. They are keen to get out today. When the bear is poked it comes out strong and we are aware they will not be happy with their performances yesterday afternoon so we're expecting some very strong opponents out there."

0755 Rickie Fowler brings it back to all square at the second with a birdie two. The final fourballs clash is about to tee off.

0753 Tiger Woods, donning a cap AND woolly hat look on the second morning, stripes it down the fairway at the first before finding the green with his second stroke. Good start for the American.

0748 Casey holes a decent birdie putt to put Europe one up at the first.

0738 McIlroy/Garcia and Finau/Koepka are all square through two holes. Dustin Johnson looks in trouble at the first green, but can Paul Casey turn the board blue?

0655 The 15-minute countdown to the first tee has begun. Europe produced a stunning afternoon whitewash to overhaul a two-point deficit to lead 5-3. Will they extend their lead by the end of Saturday's play? Or will America hit back? Do not take your eyes off this!
