Tom Watson has named Steve Stricker as one of America's vice captains for the Ryder Cup in September.
Stricker is a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour and has been a playing member on the last three US teams.
The 47-year-old finished in a tie for seventh at the US PGA Championship last week and may have been considered an outside bet for a wildcard selection, but Watson has instead appointed him to his support staff for the event at Gleneagles, along with Raymond Floyd and Andy North.
"I feel old," he told reporters. "It's a sign of the times, that you're moving on in your career. But it's rewarding, too, to get a call from Tom, and to be part of the whole team is pretty special."
Stricker made his Ryder Cup debut the last time that the US won the event - at Valhalla in 2008.
