Francesco Molinari has shot a first-round 65 to earn a two-stroke lead after day one of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Molinari enjoyed a bogey-free round in a session that included seven birdies as the Italian finished the day on seven-under-par, two clear of Robert Karlsson.
The Swede, who has not won a European Tour title since 2010, sank six birdies in all, with a bogey at the seventh his only blemish.
English hopeful Chris Wood is among those in a five-way tie for third on four-under, along with Jorge Campillo, Miguel Angel Jiminez, Yang Yong-eun and Scotland's Marc Warren.
Defending champion Rory McIlroy, fresh from his victory at Wells Fargo last week, is six shots off the pace on one-under.
