Colin Montgomerie has missed the cut at the Senior Open having finished five-over after 36 holes.
Montgomerie beat the cut at The Open at Royal Troon last week, but was unable to do so at Carnoustie this afternoon as he finished one shot above the line.
The 53-year-old was looking to continue an upward trend of recent years having finished third and second in the last two Senior Opens respectively, but his tournament will now not go past the second day.
Overnight leader Woody Austin also endured a difficult day with a two-over 74 which saw him slip 17 places.
The lead is now jointly shared by Japan's Kohki Idoki and American Joe Durant, who shot rounds of 67 and 68 respectively to reach the halfway stage on seven-under.
