Australian Rod Pampling just missed out on matching the TPC Summerlin record of 59 by carding a first-round 11-under-par 60 in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.
The 47-year-old hit two eagles and seven birdies, but came up short on the 17th hole and could only par the 18th after missing from 12 feet.
Pampling has a two-shot lead heading into the second round, with Americans John Huh and Brooks Koepka, both of whom had unblemished rounds with nine birdies.
Billy Horschel is just behind the top three after carding seven-under-par 64, but some members of the field were unable to finish their rounds as play was suspended due to darkness.
