Jason Day "100% healthy" heading into US Open

Three-time Major runner-up Jason Day insists that he is fully fit as he attempts to go one better at the US Open this week, having recovered from a thumb injury.

Jason Day is relieved to be back to full fitness as he attempts to go one better than his previous best Major finish at the US Open at Pinehurst this week.

The Australian has twice been a runner-up at the tournament, and also tied for second at the 2011 Masters, as a Major title has narrowly alluded him.

However, Day is optimistic that his time will come if he continues to put himself in contention at the top of the leaderboard, and gives himself a chance in North Carolina this year after recovering from a troublesome thumb injury that has disrupted his season.

"I've been close in a few Majors now, so close that you can almost taste it," he reporters. "It's disappointing and encouraging at the same time. It really is all how you look at things. I can stew on it and say I've blown a few or I had a real opportunity to win and I just didn't quite get there.

"But I look at it as experience. I feel like I'll get there one day. I just have to keep giving myself the opportunities. If I can put myself there more and more and more, it's bound to happen.

"I'm 100 percent healthy. There are no issues with the thumb. I'm icing my thumb, taking anti-inflammatories every day and all that other stuff just to make sure that it doesn't pop up again."

Day was tied for second with Phil Mickelson as Justin Rose won the trophy at Merion last year.
