England gymnast Sam Oldham says that he is still not sure how severe the ankle injury is that he suffered during England's gold medal-winning performance in the team final.

Team England's gold medal-winning gymnast Sam Oldham has revealed that he is still not yet sure of the severity of the ankle injury he suffered during the second half of today's Commonwealth Games men's team final.

The 21-year-old from Nottingham completed a tough vault but landed awkwardly on his ankle and immediately couldn't put any weight on it, meaning that he could no longer compete.

"The vault was fantastic, it was all really really exciting," said England coach Scott Hann. "We all jumped up in the air because it was so good, but then obviously when he put his hand up in the air to say that he was hurting we knew that there was a problem."

Oldham had to be wheeled away for examination midway through the team's final session and missed the moment when they all but secured the gold medal.

He was able to return for tonight's medal ceremony, though, and was helped up onto the podium by his teammates.

After collecting the gold medal, Oldham told reporters: "I'm still waiting on the results so I don't know yet. I'm very happy that I was able to go to the awards ceremony and receive a medal, but I was gutted not to be here when we actually [secured] the medal."

Earlier on in the day, England's poster boy Louis Smith told Sports Mole that he thought the injury would "only get worse".
