England gymnast Max Whitlock says that Team GB will have the last laugh as the home nations continue to clock up medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Max Whitlock believes that Team GB will benefit greatly from the home nations' Commonwealth Games gymnastic success when the World Championship comes around.

England, Scotland and Wales have picked up no fewer than 34 medals between them in gymnastic events in Glasgow this summer.

The three nations - as well as Northern Ireland - will combine forces to compete in the upcoming world championships in China, and Whitlock says that the Games have given all the athletes a major confidence boost.

The 21-year-old, who won bronze in today's parallel bars event behind compatriot Nile Wilson and Scotland's Daniel Purvis, told BBC Sport: "Starting I was nervous but I got to watch all the other athletes and they were amazing.

"I am so happy, I was really looking forward to the final, to finish with a bronze and a good routine was fun.

"Gymnastics in Britain is really improving rapidly, hopefully we can peak again in time for the World Championships. This has brought us all a lot of confidence."

The World Championships is scheduled to begin in October.
