Japan's Daiki Hashimoto successfully defended his men's all-around title at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp.

The reigning Olympic all-around champion - who took the world title in Liverpool last year - came up trumps with a total of 86.132 after six pieces of apparatus to win gold medal number two of the Championships, having formed a part of Japan's triumphant crop in the team event earlier this week.

Ukraine's Illia Kovtun followed up his all-around bronze from 2021 with a runners-up finish this time around - scoring 84.998 - while the USA's 19-year-old protege Fred Richard won his first-ever individual world medal, as his 84.332 was good enough for bronze.

Great Britain were represented in the final by James Hall and Jake Jarman, the latter of whom nailed a magnificent 3.5 twisting vault for a 15.433 - the highest score of the day on the apparatus - but mistakes on the rings, parallel bars and high bar cost the four-time Commonwealth champion.

Jarman finished down in 13th place with 81.198 on the board, while compatriot Hall sneaked into the top 10, ending in ninth with a total of 82.331 and the fifth-highest parallel bars score of the day (14.666).

The Championships continue with the women's all-around final on Friday, where Ondine Achampong and Jessica Gadirova - who qualified in third place - will be in action for GB. body check tags ::
