Chinese gymnast Zhang Boheng edged out home favourite Daiki Hashimoto to take the gold medal in the Men's All-Around Final at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Japan.
With 2019 winner Nikita Nagornyy not competing in this year's edition, Japan's Hashimoto - the Olympic All-Around champion - was regarded by many as the favourite to storm to victory in front of the home crowd.
However, the Japanese gymnast suffered a costly fall on the pommel horse as Boheng took the title with a total score of 87.981, just 0.017 ahead of Hashimoto's 87.964.
Boheng was omitted from the Chinese Olympic team for the Tokyo Games but posted the highest scores on floor (14.833), vault (14.866) and parallel bars (15.366) to win gold in Japan.
Ukraine's Illia Kovtun scooped the bronze medal with a total score of 84.899 as the USA's Yul Moldauer finished fourth with 84.365, while Great Britain's Joshua Nathan finished ninth with the highest pommel score of the day (15.000).
Boheng takes the world title after Russia's Angelina Melnikova became the Women's All-Around champion on Thursday, and the World Championships resume with the apparatus finals over the weekend.
